As if the Nintendo Wii was not enough, Microsoft is coming out with its own interactive system called the Kinect. The Kinect has cameras that capture motion in the room and allows you to wireless interface with your XBOX360 console. Similar to the Wii, it will allow you to play games designed for exercise and weight loss.
I am curious as to the way forward from here. I always tried to imagine the way forward for the gaming industry. So what is next? We can work out using these consoles already. What sort of innovations would you like to see attached to these gaming consoles? Stock apps? Interactive cooking shows?
Thoughts?

ReplyDeleteThe most interesting part for me is that these motion systems are so inherently flawed... without physical feedback it becomes almost useless. Well that and there are more than a few broken televisions from people who have just let go of the Wiimote (wrist band people! there for a REASON!) And for your viewing pleasure, a 25 second clip explaining why I think motion capture is a step BACK for the gaming industry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux1FZpPKh20
ReplyDeleteMy concern with Xbox's move to motion gaming is how will will the distribute their popular sports games such as EA's Madden, Tiger Woods, or FIFA. Will there be two separate games one for Kinect and one for the normal controler? Will they be sold together? How will this effect the price point of future games?
ReplyDeleteOn another subject at what point will game prices come down? With the development of technology at such a rapid pace and the complexity of apps. Shouldn't game prices begin to fall?
